Strengthening FIDIC Expertise for Ukraine’s Recovery Projects

As part of the EU4Reconstruction (Stream 2) efforts, three training sessions on “FIDIC Conditions of Contract for Construction Projects” were held on 21–23 July 2026, bringing together around 20 representatives from the Projects Management Unit for Restoration (PMU), the National Institute for Development Infrastructure, the State Agency for Restoration and Development of Infrastructure of Ukraine (SARDI), and Regional Restoration Services. FIDIC, the International Federation of Consulting Engineers, is the international organization for construction technology and consulting engineering.

The training was delivered by the FIDIC-certified trainer with more than 23 years of professional experience in procurement and contract management for European Union and international financial institution (IFI)-funded projects in the environment and energy sectors.

The sessions provided participants with a comprehensive introduction to FIDIC contracts and their practical application in infrastructure projects. The programme covered the FIDIC mission and strategic goals, the most widely used FIDIC Contract Forms, the FIDIC Golden Principles, preparation of Particular Conditions, and the fundamentals of the General Conditions under the FIDIC Red and Yellow Books.

To reinforce the learning process, the training combined presentations with interactive quizzes and practical case studies, enabling participants to apply the concepts to real-world project scenarios.

The online FIDIC training was informative, well-structured, and practically oriented. The material was presented in an accessible manner, and the examination of real-life examples helped to better understand the application of FIDIC contracts in practice,” shared a representative of the Dnipropetrovsk Regional Restoration Service.

By enhancing knowledge of internationally recognized contract management practices, the EU4Reconstruction (Stream 2) contributes to strengthening the institutional capacity of the PMU and SARDI and improving the delivery, quality, and efficiency of Ukraine’s reconstruction efforts.
